This pan is similar to our Part Number 10304, Dodge 45RFE, 545RFE, 68RFE tranny pan
but this pan has more capacity, is slightly deeper, and costs a little
more. It has 4 1/2 quarts compared to 3 1/8 quarts over stock for 2WD.
When Dodge decided to use the Hemi trans pan design on the new 6.7 liter
diesel powered trucks, we knew that the trucks would see even heavier
towing use. Increased oil capacity beyond part number 10304 would be a
benefit for this type of service. Both pans fit the same applications
with the same exceptions.
This Dodge 68RFE, 545RFE, 45RFE deep transmission oil pan is a direct replacement on these vehicles:
- Ram 2500 & 3500, 2WD and 4WD, with 6.7 liter diesel engine, 2007½ and newer
(Note that the 3500 HD cab & chassis has the Aisin transmission so
this pan will not work and 5.9 liter diesel trucks, need pan part number 9393.)
- Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2002 - 2005
- Ram 1500 with 4.7 V8 engine, 2002 and newer
- 2WD Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 - 2004
- 2WD Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 - 2003
- Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 V8 engine, 1999 - 2004
The following vehicles may have interference problems with a
larger transmission pan. In some cases, the vehicle can be modified to
allow installation:
- Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2006 & newer: The stock exhaust may hit a deeper transmission pan. Use dimensions provided below to check your truck for clearance.
- Ram 2500 & 3500 with Hemi engine:
The exhaust crossover pipe is routed underneath the back part of the pan
instead of in front of it like the 1500. The pipe must be rerouted
downwards 1" in order to prevent it from hitting the pan. Click here to see an image of the stock pan and stock exhaust. Aftermarket exhaust systems are routed differently.
- 4WD Dakota 2000 - 2004 and 4WD Durango 2000 - 2003: The frame crossmember behind the transmission pan will interfere with a larger pan.
- Dakota 2005 & newer and Durango 2004 & newer: The frame crossmember behind the transmission pan will interfere with a larger pan.
- Durango with Hemi engine: A catalytic converter in front of and underneath the transmission pan will interfere with a deeper pan.
- Jeep Grand Cherokee with Hemi engine: A catalytic converter in front of and underneath the transmission pan will interfere with a larger pan.
- Jeep Liberty CRD: Requires removal of
the factory skid plate, or addition of spacers to move the skid plate
downward away from the transmission. We have had two customers document
their pan installs.
- First, thanks to Stan Wright who purchased our less deep pan, part number 10304, for his CRD and then documented his installation. See liberty.eurekaboy.com/deeppan.htm to read about this install.
- Second, thanks to Steve who installed this pan on his 2006 Liberty CRD and has posted images on Picasa.

This design has a slant to it (one side longer than the other) so
that once on the truck, the bottom is parallel to the ground like the
stock pan. Unlike most other transmissions, Dodge put an angle on the
gasket surface.

For PML part numbers 10304 and 11039, you can use either filter.
For PML part numbers 11078 and 11079, you must use the 4WD filter as the
step in the pan will not accommodate a 2WD filter. Thanks to Eric who
provided part numbers for 4WD filters that will work:
- OEM: 5013470AB
- Fleetguard: TF15072
- FRAM: FT1223
- WIX: 58843 (kit)
The filter referred to as the 2WD filtter, has a short inlet pipe toward
the rear of the filter. The other filter is called a 4WD filter and
the inlet tube is longer and toward the center of the filter. We have
been told that around 2007 Dodge began using 4WD filters on 2WD
vehicles.
PML pans for Dodge 68RFE, 545RFE, 45RFE transmissions work with stock
filters, easily available from your favorite auto parts store or
dealer.
The filter bolts on to the valve body as shown in above images. The
filter does not use the pan for support so the pan does not need filter
supports in it. (Click on image to view a larger pictures in a new tab
or window.)
A filter extension or tube is not needed since the fluid will be at the
same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick
up from the same place with the stock pan or with a PML pan. PML
designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for
additional modifications or complications.
Information is for reference only. Installer should verify transmission, filter, and fitment based on the individual vehicle.

The pan features internal baffles to direct oil to the filter inlet and provide additional surface area for cooling.

Installed on a Grand Cherokee
Victor installed this transmission pan on a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The pan fit great without any clearance issues. Our thanks to Victor
for providing the pictures.
